One of my hobbies is photography, and I do get the occasional picture that I am pleased with.  Here are some of my photo’s that I am particularly pleased with.

We went up to the Chicago Botanic Garden this past weekend to enjoy the nice weather and the flowers of the garden.  While there we were treated to a show by a couple of Hummingbirds.  I was able to get a few good photos.  They are really beautiful birds and they are starting to fuel up for their trip back home to Mexico. We were at a Hummingbird Festival at Sagawau Environment Learning Center with the Cook County Forest Preserve and found out that these little birds fly non stop for more than 600 miles in the spring from their winter homes in Mexico to Louisiana. They rest a little bit, eat a little and then head north to Illinois and Wisconsin (among other places). In the fall they do the reverse trip.

At the festival, they were capturing and banding birds to help track them. It was really neat to see the birds in someone’s hand, laying on their back before being let go. A flip of the hand sent them on their way. Apparently this area has a lot of Hummingbirds. We’ve seen them feeding from our Bee Balm and then one night while we were sitting out on the back deck, one flew over our head, hovered in the middle of the deck area, looked around (like he was checking out the area) and then flew on to the next meal. It was a real treat to see them.
